Hey all, 1980 CJ7 stock jeep steering wheel.
I have the steering wheel, the horn assembly the ring with 3 screw holes and the rubber centre with Jeep on it.
I installed the horn assembly, and the steering wheel, and I think the ring attaches to the steering wheel with 3 screws. My question is what holds the rubber centre with jeep on it onto the steering/horn assembly?
Looks like I am missing a spring or something?
Anyone got a parts breakdown for the steering wheel/horn or a picture?

This is a great page with good pictures on the steering column. -->> Untitled Document

Here is a breakdown of the column.

This is the backside of my steering wheel center cover (with "Jeep" on it) and the part that it engages with on the steering column..

Hope these pics help.... there is a "tab" on the center ring on the rear of the cover that engages with the notch in the metal "ring" on the column.. There is also a plastic circle that engages the metal ring and press-fits into it to hold it on...

(I just re-read my post.....I sound stupid!! It was just the only way I could word it !! LOL

Hope it helps..

Im pretty sure its a common part on those steering wheels.. Id look in a J/Y for some, either from jeeps, waggies or GM cars with those wheels. I have an extra column on the garage that should have that parts. If you can find it let me know and Ill send it to you for a couple of bucks. There is also a beveled piece of steel under that plate that holds the whole thing up.. need that too?

the second picture is of the plate that goes between the metal horn button and the wheel its self. Its beveled towards the middle. When you reinstall it put the bevel side up.

Let me know if you need either of them.

I will look for a part number for you,but one thing is that pic does not look like a 1980 column
i would guess and say the PO swapped it out (if thats the part that you need)
when you are looking try looking for horn contact kit pre 70 camaro

like 1968 camaro

and see if Rickscamaros.com comes up as one of the links

used them a few years back
good luck
