Hi guys. I'm installing a Sunpro tach on my steering column. I've set it to 8 cylinders and mounted it. Now for the fun part...

How do I tell the negative from the positive on the coil?

While the coil is disconnected would I benefit from a nicer aftermarket one (Accel or MSD)? The one I have works fine as best I know.

Any helpful hints on how best to do this other than following the directions?

Stupid questions, I know...but I'm trying to do what I can myself to learn my way around this wonderful machine. :chug: Many thanks.

Most coils are marked as to polarity right next to the terminals. OR you can turn on your key and probe with a test light. the one that makes the light bright, is the positive side.

If you have the OEM connector on the coil then the wire on the right is ground. Left is positive.

I wouldn't replace your coil unless you have to. When mine gave out I installed a MSD Blaster Coil for off road use.

Most coils have a liquid center. This MSD Off road coil has a solid epoxy core. It handles vibration and getting bumped around better than other coils. It also puts out higher voltage for a stronger spark. My last coil failed because it got banged around so much the internal coiled wire shorted out.
