just recently took the cj out for the first time, a little mud, some rocky terrain. what would be some good mods for more suspension travel? this is not a daily driver but does see some low speed hwy driving. was definitely doing a little three wheeling throughout the day and would like to keep as much rubber on the ground as possible.

That's a loaded question with many answers to cover the question, in general. You need to give us some parameters like what you have now and how much you want to spend to get more flex.

If you have a sway bar, get disconnects for it. Don't even think about revolver shackles. Lower air pressure in the tires helps also.

Loosening up the spring clips helps.....but what most people miss is this: Suspension articulation is Limited primarily by shock travel. The installation of Ford shock towers will let you use longer travel shocks. It's a modification that's been used for years.

it is a 4" rough country lift, w/factory length shackles. as far as how much I spend depends on what I can get for the money. I was also eye balling the revolver shackles, whats the negative with those?

4" lift springs have a high spring rate. Measured in pounds per 1" deflection. My old TRailMaster 4" we're 550 #/". My 2.5" OME YJs are around 240 #/". My fifteen year old shocks were like new cause they never moved much.

Find some rocks or cement blocks, drive up on them and measure exactly what your travel is.

Always good to check the shock length as CJim said. :D

Revolver shackles severely reduce the stability. They are only good on a RTI ramp.

will get the travel measured and go from there, thanks. not sure what a RTI ramp is but will take your word on the shackles. thanks.

As stated the shocks often limit the travel. To test your travel take them off and then drive into a ditch so all the weight is on 2 opposite corners.

It's ideal if 2 tires are just coming off the ground. Then measure how long the shocks should be.

If your jeep is mainly for off road I am not as opposed to revolver shackles in the rear as csuengr. RTI Ramp is Ramp Travel Index. A ramp used to check wheel travel. It can also be used to check the shock length instead of the ditch.

everything they said ^^
also make sure your shackles are not over tightened, they need to be able to swing.
RC makes a pretty stiff spring, I wouldn't expect to much travel.
