Have a 1978 CJ7 that I need to put new shocks on. The CJ7 looks like it has a lift but don't see anything that tells me it does. Running 31 inch tires. Does anybody know any measurement on the height that would tell me if it is lifted or not.

Shocks can be purchased by their amount of travel from a local 4wd shop. Measure the amount from bolt to bolt with your rigs suspension compressed and extended.

Front shock compressed 16" Front shock extended 16 1/2"
Rear shock compressed 17" Rear shock extended 17 1/2"

I doubt you only have a 1/2" of travel.
You have to compress the front suspension by adding weight that equals what normally , it would be running at.........like people, tools , fuel ETC. To the point it gets on the bump stops between the chassis and axle..........Now measure that!
I normally add sand bags to the front & rear end , to act as ballast. but you could also ask that several of your big friends come over to act as ballast to compress the suspension.

Then after getting that measurement jack up the chassis front and rear and put it on jack stands so the axles & suspension hang............Measure that!

The difference is your travel and that is what the shock require's to work in your application. With that info it should be easy to source the correct length shocks.
