i'm wondering what would be the best way to lower my xfer case ratio.
doesn't seem reasonable to change out pumpkins to 4:56 as this will
radically change the street performance. what other xfer cases fit the
stock T-150 tranny or maybe what is the $$$ involved in a t-18a?
my samurai has a grsII xfer case that runs about 4:89 and works well
for my kind of wheelin'.
ideas???

good stuff on the Ford 4 speeds, they bolt to the AMC bell but have to adapt to the TC so a T-18 or 19 or a NO435 and adapt to a Dana 300 TC would get you scary insane low with one to one final 4 high and the R&P of your choice.
The TC 4 low ratio of 2.62:1 and the 1st gear of 6.4 should be able to climb phone poles.
The adapter is about $500 and a Dana 300 can be had for $2-300 , market price on the tranny, mounts etc.
Is this a jeep project or a Zuki?

have both cars.. will be selling zuk if jeep can crawl affordably!
jeep has a 2.03 xfer low now and coupled with the T-150 its way too
high in the rocks!
atlas is a great solution but would like to hold the budget down!

more ideas ?????

This is still not cheap but how about a T-18 and a Dana 300 with a 4:1 kit in it.
Thats the best your going to get.

a T-18 supposedly has a conventional first gear while the t-18a has something like a 6:1 in 1st gear !!?? the Dana 300 with a reduction
of 3:1 would work well... $$$ i'll look into prices... the atlas is about
$2000.00 ish and atlas helps you thru the ordering process..

Your right I ment t-18A, The 300 is only 2.7. The only 4:1 kit I know of is about 1G by the time you get a rebuild kit with it. A few hundred more to add a bigger spline output. You might just as well buy the atlas and get there warranty

why not get low low gears for the Dana 20 ?

I will just guess that you have a 3.73 R&P now so with the T-18a and the Dana 300 TC you have a final drive of about 65:1 so with the engine speed of 1200 RPM's you will turn the wheels over about 18 times a minute. With 33 inch tires thats about 155 feet a minute. Still too high?

Dude do what I did find a 1989 Scout 2 with a TC 146 Dana 300 .You will need the bull gear from a T19. manual tranny. The TC146 bolt up to the T-18 with out an adapter. ultra short combo.
T-18 6:38 first gear
TC 146 Scout Dana 300 2.60 low range.
These are out there you just have to look for them.

The 1980 Scout TC 146 Dana 300 has the texas bolt pattern that mates to the T19 and T-18 . The speed cable is on the passenger side this version does not use the bottom hole.
