My ole '79 CJ7 has manual steering and I grabbed a PS unit out of a buddies. It looks rather straight forward but as usual, it must have hidden "issues" that keep it from being the bolt- on app. Anybody done this that would like to share some info/ save me alot of cussing, I would love to hear your experience !

Not really , as long as you grabbed everything you need it'll be bolt on and go.

You need the pump and resovior along with the bracket , upper double groove pulley , single groove add on lower pulley , return and pressure hose , steering box , and the coupling from the steering shaft for the power steering box.

The hardware along with the above mentioned parts make it a pretty simple swap. One thing to be aware of is that the box mounts to the frame and some times the captured nuts inside break loose. While the steering box is off look for cracks in the frame around that area.

what year was the donor??

I am doing this and so far the only problem I am having is the bottom u joint on the shaft. My gear box is from an 81 J-10 that used a rag joint rather than the usual joint, what ever that is called.:D

I have also found that the 4.0 head conversion relocates the intake manifold up about 1/2 inch up, this required a bit of creativity with the rear pump mount.

Tanks( virgin Islanders pronounce "th" as "t"...one,two,tree) for responding. My first time joining anything on line. It's already great to feel I have a place to go with ideas and questions. I chopped the unit at the u-joint at firewall and below the slip joint at the splined yoke at gear box. seems now I'll have to bone yard a column and wheel as mine has frozen up while it was waiting for me to make more money...sound familiar? I got the pump, both hoses, pitman(need a drop arm due to lift) and frame bracket. I beleive there is double pully on crank, so there would be just a top( belt tension) bracket that bolts onto head, right?
