We installed a Rubicon 6 inch lift on our CJ5 1979. We did it a couple of years ago but the jeep is just now running. It wanders down the road and it is not drive able. We first thought that the front end need to be rebuilt so we did that and had it aliened. There was some improvement but it is still dangerous. Today I got on line at quadratec and was going to call them (that is who we bought the lift from) when I seen some parts for the Rubicon called the Sway Bar Disconnect Set which we do have. I couldn't see what they went to and figured they were for a different jeep I assumed that the lift fit different year jeeps. The guy at quadratec said that they replace the old sway bars but there are no sway bars on our jeep. So are they missing or maybe the CJ5 doesn't have sway bars I can't see any, that is way I thought that these disconnect bars didn't go to our jeep. Does anyone have a picture of a stock jeep sway bar or any information about this.

here are some pictures

The swaybar controls body roll....most notably during turns. If this thing wanders an a straight road, its not a swaybar issue.....
Check your ball joints.

And....looking at the pictures....is that swaybar bent? If so, you can get enough flex in it to cause wander, and other serious issues.

Thanks alot I decided to lower the jeep and it is working great. I have already rebuilt the front end thinking that would solve it but it didn't..

Sounds like it may have been a castor issue. Glad you fixed it :)

They use shackles that are crazy long and it causes the front axle to roll forward negating the built in caster, thus making it handle as good as a shopping cart. :D
Use steel degree shims to correct or shorter shackles, sounds like you already figured it out.
