I was doing some reading the other day and noticed that my 77 CJ5 should have Sway Bars on it, but there isn't any on the Jeep, the Brackets appear to be on the axles but no bars or mounts on the frame

Do I really need the Sway Bars or Do most people take them off ?

I use my sway bars. I have driven with out them hooked up and it really rolls in the corners to the point of scary. That is with a 4" lift. A lower lift or stock you may not need them.I do disconnect them when wheeling to get more articulation.

Yup if your springs are soft, sway bars really help.

If I'm going 60mph they're connected. :D

anti-sway bars help the stability and safety on road but they hinder articulation off-road.
Quick disconnects give you the best of both worlds.

I was going to post about the same question on here.
I was checking for loose parts on the front end and all I seen was the springs flexing when turning the wheel.I have a 4in ProComp lift with 1in lift Misner shackles.
My buddy has a 81 CJ5 that drives better than mine but he runs a 2in lift+1in shackles with a sway bar.
What I need to know is what type of bar do I need and what disconnects for the amount of lift I have? Also will this take some of the flex and pulling when shifting gears out(all new motor and tranny mounts)
I have this Jeep 100x better than when I got it but now trying to get it to best possible driver cause I drive to where I off road it.

:)Bunky,

Do you need a sway bar? only right before you roll over on a corner you took too fast!

Normally just the front will do a good job with a flexy suspension.

Your frame width should be 28" C/C and a stock CJ 1980's and later 13/16" or 7/8" bar off a narrow track front end will fit right on there including the frame brackets the rubber bushings will have to be replaced.
Used on E-Bay.......I've bought them for $50 bucks + shipping with the brackets.

On the quick disconnects I'm with "Purple 77" the best on the market are the JKS Quick disconnects with the stainless tapered pins and the composite joints.
