I just put a T-18 in my CJ5 . The Reverse light switch doesn't work. So I am looking for a replacement. Problem is no one has seen this one! It mounts behind and inline with the reverse rod on the tranny lid. It is not the one that has a ball actuator and screws into the lid. I will attempt to attach a picture of the two types.

If anyone can help me find this switch I will be Eternally grateful!

Hello CjSnob and welcome to our site! :chug:

Are you saying the current switch you have does not have a ball contact?

All T-18 's that I know of always used those...

Hi CjSnob, welcome to the site :chug:

I have a stock T-18 in my '78, and it uses the ball contact style. So, as usual, I'm going to have to believe what CJ said about it being a 71 or older T-18 . I haven't found anything online, yet. I'll keep digging.

CjSnob, where are you at in PA?

BTW - I called Novak about your switch... So far they haven't figured it out...

Well, most of my ideas were covered already.

First, do you know what the T-18 was out of?
Second, Novak or Advanced Adapters might know about this.

I haven't seen anything like this before, but you never know, you learn something new each day.

Basically the T-18 was in a few vehicles in a lot of configurations, so maybe one of hte other less known guys did it this way... or perhaps the reverse gear in this particular modcel was smaller/larger, thus needing that longer shaft.

I would call the swap experts (both of them) and see what they say.

Also, did anyone ask you if you can spin the top part of that off? I was wondering if the top comes out of the shaft... basically then you would have the normal type swich, but instead, it was rusted together on to the shaft and you removed the whole shaft that it rides upon?

I have not been able to seperate the switch from the rod. I have tried several times.

What are the numbers on the side of the case?
I found this... if it is a T-98 or another variation like a T19, it could be where your issue lies

Check out the image and the reverse switch 1/2 way down.

Thanks "Certifiable"

I was told this tranny came out of a CJ5

It's interesting that nobody seems to have encountered this. I easily found a picture of my configuration:

You can tell the difference because with the one I am looking for the switch is inline with the reverse rod.

The one pictured in that link is a T18B.

From novak:
"A certainly rare version of the Ford T-18 was the T18B, as provided in diesel trucks from 1967-1972, featuring higher gear ratios in 1st thru 3rd gears (4.32, 2.26, 1.51). This Transmission will be very rarely encountered, but individuals should be aware of the possiblity."

The numbers on top of the shifter lid are:

13-01-097-901 (not sure about the last "1" in 901 there is some rust there)

below that number is what looks like: J5

From Novak:
FORD
"The Ford versions can also be identified by its casting numbers cast into the driver's side of the case, commonly "T-18 -1E" for earlier units and "13-01" for later units."

"If you can locate the production ID tag on your Ford T-18 top cover, you will find a lettering code akin to “D7T3...”. This may help identify the year of Transmission , as Ford uses the first letter to designate the decade (C=’60s, D=’70s, etc.) and the year is called out by the second digit."

Jeep
"Casting numbers commonly found on Jeep truck T-18 's are #13-01-192, #13-01-193, #13-01-209, #13-01-210, which are typically the close ratio versions of the Jeep T-18 Transmission ."

CjSnob,
I just picked up a T18a from an 88 Bronco
The casting number on my shift plate is:
13-01-097-909

I'd give the ford dealer a shot at trying to find your rev switch.
Good luck

Sorry to bump a super old thread, but I'm lost as well!just got my first jeep and I don't know much about its history... I do know that I have the exact same reverse switch, and no clue where to get a new one... Any ideas?
