Well i had some bearings go out in my T-14 so I was going to rebuild the Transmission . All of the gears are in bad shape due to the failure of the bearing and water damage. It looks as if it had water in there for a very long time. Unfortunately I havent even drove the jeep but about a mile since I bought it a few weeks ago. I am getting hammered on this thing money wise. My question is, what all Transmission / Transfer Case setups will be a direct swap into my 73 CJ5 ? Currently it has T-14 /Dana 20 . I would rather not have to change the lengths of my driveshafts. With that said, i am in the market for both.
Looking through craigslist, I see many options for transmissions. T-15 , T-18 , T-150 . Whats the best route and like i mentioned in previous post, preferably a direct bolt up. Thank you.
The T-14 and T-15 should use the same bolt pattern and both used a deeper than normal bell housing. There are a lot of variations to both the transmissions so you need to make sure you find a jeep version. As far as the T-18 or T-150 a replacement bell housing will be needed. There are some CJ - T-18 bell that were OEM from 1972 & up but in 1977 to 1979 CJ bell housings were drilled for the T-18 and the T-150 . Of course that is for the CJ version of the T-18 ; all of the 1972 and up CJ bell housings will bolt to any AMC I6 or V8. If you do decide to go with a T-18 a little more work and expense are involved. Try this:
