Hello Again folks,

I've about had enough of my T-5 , second Transmission i'm on and this one is giving the dreaded bearing whine.

Got my hands on an AX15, but having a touch of confusion regarding if i can drill the bellhousing to take the novak adapter. They say that you can drill/clearance to fit and it would be a direct bolt-up for the T-176 .

I'm planning on using this adapter, i'd rather keep the mechanical clutch linkage.

Adapting the 1976-1986 AMC Bellhousings to the Jeep AX15 & New Venture 3550 Transmissions

Here's a pic of my T-5 bellhousing, is this going to be an issue? Should i track down a T-176 BH?

Bearing 'wine'-
May I ask what oil you are using in your T-5 ?
Have you talk'd to Novak? That's what I would do since they make the adapter.

Had Dex3 in there, still whined, swapped with 80w90, whine is quieter.

Put UV dye and checked for leaks, none found thankfully.

Whine is in 1-2-3 and 5, not in 4th.

Spoke with novak, they were supposed to fax directions, but the fax didnt come through, will try again tomorrow.

Dextron ATF and 80w-90 are not the correct oils to use!
AMC learn'd this the hard way --------
Use only 75W-90 syn gear oil in the T-4 or T-5 . I use Valvoline in mine.

I think some of the AX15 came with an external slave cylinder. It would be A LOT cheaper to find a good bellhousing and put a new slave cylinder on it.
The AX15 is already longer than the T-5 and you need a clocking ring for the Transfer Case . An adapter plate will add another inch.

Update:

So the novak adapter worked with a bit of modification.

Had to drop the bellhousing, drill it and then use the bolts they provided + some threaded rod to fit to the adapter.

The bolts they gave had clearance issues so i basically made studs from the adapter to the bellhousing to hold it together. fitment is +/- .002 and i was able to easily mate the bellhousing up to the engine.

Transfer Case goes in tomorrow night and i get the drive-shaft back Wednesday. Should be good to go at this point.
