Ok - what's the best way to loosen up tailgate hinges that are not frozen, but really hard to move? One's not too bad, but the other takes screwdrivers in the screw holes to get enough leverage to move it. I've had em soaking in Evaporust, but it's not doing much. PB Blaster? Heat? I wanna get em loosened up before I paint em.....

heat them up and melt wax into them. When they are cooling down keep working them back and forth. After that lots of oil.

Thanky - I'll give that a shot [emoji106]

I was just working on my windshield hinges like this today. I used Pb blaster and worked the hinges back and forth after a few applications they work nice.

In my head Evaporust was gonna make em like new - but I have :dung: in my head a lot LOL. I'll get em freed up a bit. Degrease thoroughly, paint, then lube well. Actually, being lazy I was hoping the soak would do it. Not.

you can always get stainless steel hinges and just paint those then you dont have to worry about the problem ever again and they are cheap

mine were frozen so I took them off and put them in a vise sprayed them good with PB blaster and let them soak then took a hammer and broke them loose then sprayed them good again and worked them back and forth until they were loose and reinstalled.

Aero-Kroil is the best "Liquid Wrench" on the market. Used it on my hinges, then some tri-flow synthetic. I use Aero-Kroil to loosen up frozen vintage sewing machines where the tolerances are much tighter. Adding heat to the part facilitates the process.

Dang - I forgot about Kroil. ... Makes a pretty potent rifle bore cleaner as well.

The evaporust will clean them up well but you have to be able to soak them for it to work

I have had pretty good luck with Liquid Wrench Chain and cable lube. One side in a vice and keep working it.

One other thing. Drill a hole in the center, not enough to go through the pin. Make them like the windshield hinge with an oil hole.

Or in your case, a PB Blaster hole. :D
