Hi, new to the forum. Thought I'd start with my build thread. Short history: bought it in 2004 after coming home from Iraq with more cash than common sense. Found a ton of PO problems. Tried building a 72 and 76 CJ5 at the same time and found that just meant neither got worked on at the same time. Sold 72 to my Dad (still owns it, I'll get him working on it and start another thread). Army moved me around a lot and magically I ended up with nothing but a frame, suspension, tires and motor parked at my parent's house.:wtf: So....now I am in Afghanistan and have cash again so work has started in earnest. My father is helping me with most of the work until I get back (almost done in this sandbowl!)

Now, the picture history:
-How I bought it
-New Seats
-New top

Old motor started smoking, so my father built me a healthy 302. I don't remember everything but this is what I do remember:
Bored .060, Comp Cam Dual Energy 262H (I think, it's mild with a little lope at idle and good torque curve), Ford roller rockers, MSD ignition all the way from Distributor to box, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley Truck Avenger carb.
I originally used Advanced Adapters fenderwell headers but have since switched to Novak shorties. I am using MORE motor mounts.

I used a mustang serpentine system and dual electric fans. One turns on at 180, one at 210. So far no overheating problems with stock radiator.
Next step was rebuilding rear axle after busting a bearing jumping a sand dune (whoops). 4.10 gears, cheap locker and Moser one piece axles.

So I started looking at the body while working on the rear axle and discovered more rot than I knew how to repair. Dumped the whole tub and started a frame up restoration. The Jeep sat for quite a few years while the Army moved me around. I just recently started up again in hopes of being done next year sometime. So far, the front axle has been regeared and reassembled with 82 discs. When I get back from Afghanistan I will finish painting the frame, refinish the motor, install a twin stick on the Dana 20 and retrofit a hydraulic clutch system. More to follow!

Thanks
I'll get more detailed once I'm home (few more weeks). I'm taking a nice vacation next month and plan on getting a lot done. I hope to have a rolling chassis by September.
