TH400 Automatic

I believe that tranny is to long. The drive shaft angles become to extreme.

I stand corrected. I always thought that combo was to long for a CJ.

This is going to make my life much better.

P.S. you might be able to answer this questions; I will owe you some beer if you ever come to Zion National Park in Utah....

I have a 1981 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with a 4 speed; that I want to put the 4 speed into my 1983 CJ7 AMC 304 ..Will this work?

You can ALS use a GM Turbo 400 short output shaft and the factory skinny adapter for a 205 they fit as well. If you go the 400 rout let me know the 1-2 shift while still in 1 really "@():$) but its a free fix.

No, probably not. It depends on your driveline. The AMC 304 was not offered in '83. It must have been swapped in. The AMC 304 is from the '70s and I am willing to bet the tranny and maybe the TCase are also from the '70s. If your '83 has a Dana 20 TCase then it will not be easy to install without 2 adapters.

The answer is maybe and there are a lot of variables. You might want to start a new thread.
