Here we go, I am new to jeeps, new to builds, new to mechanicing (but willing to learn). I recently inherited this 1955 from my Grandpa, I don't plan on many changes. It has just under 30k original miles! I am however, planning on making it a little more family friendly by adding a rear seat and seat-belts all the way around. I will keep you posted as it develops, if you have suggestions or references please send them my way. Thanks in Advance!

First, sorry for your loss. Your Grandpa has done an excellent job maintaining his Jeep and it sounds like your planning to do the same. What a great opportunity you have.

I would recommaned purchasing a FSM (Factory Service Manual) they can be found on ebay for typically the best prices.

Posi,
Thanks for the info, I will order an FSM. I guess I need to clarify, Grandpa is still alive and doing well at 81 years young. Maybe a better term would be passed down. He's not driving as well as he did and wanted to make sure the jeep would be appreciated. I am excited about all the fun it will bring to me and my family, I hope to pass it on to my son many years from now!

Side note: be patient on the FSM, I found a 79 FSM on ebay in very good shape for $13.

:ww: Nice looking cj gramps gave you, take good care of it.:chug:

I can only hope you preserve this Cj as well as your Grandfather did. Tell him all of us at Jeep-Cj.com give him this: :chug:

and this: :notworthy:

I figured it needed an engine pic. I do plan on a little spring cleaning as soon as the weather agrees with me!

Congrats on the family heirloom its looks to be real nice. Whats that between the seats a home made gun rack. It must have been grandpas hunting rig that would explain the low miles.

Welcome and very nice cj! I have both the fsm and parts book that cover your jeep so if you need some help before you get your own pm me. Glad to see you joined and I really like your new CJ!

Welcome to the Forum! Congrats on the nice jeep. My neighbor has one very much like yours....he's finishing a frame off resto....and the F-134 in his, well, it really goes well, off road. Better than my 360 powered CJ7 . We are still analyzing as to why....lol. Congrats again! :chug:

I hope this is the right area for this post, I am looking for suggestions on rear seats. I have been searching for a low back, right vintage (does not have to be exact) but I would like it to be capable of mounting seatbelts in/through.

Finally making progress. After $500 at the parts store I now have the oil, seals, and couple extra tools to help with the job! Plan on starting the brakes tomorrow .
