I don't think that the Mayans got it wrong, because the Mayans never thought that the world was going to come to an end on December 21, 2012. In fact, as I understand it from reading about it on the internet so keep that in mind as well, the Mayans thought that the world would just go forever. Some modern day screen writers decided to use that as the premise of a movie that they wanted to make. Evidently their movie was fictional.
