so i have a chance to trade a chevy 305 for a set of 35x14.5x15 thornbirds i realy dont have much if anything in the motor so thats not the concern but i was just wondering what the oppinion was of the thornbirds ? thanks

I personally have never owned a set. But, from the guys that I have known to have a set, I've been told that they absolutely howl of pavement and are not very good in mud or snow the odd pattern of the voids fill quickly and don't clean themselves out very well.

Again, not first hand knowledge.

thanks for the input have you ever heard of or had a set of mastercraft courser m/t i ask becuse that is what is on my cj now

Nope, never owned a set of Mastercrafts either. There are three of four guys at work that run them, two of them with TJ's and no one has anything bad to say about them.

thats good to hear atleast they look good atleast i think so and they are fairly quit so now im not sure about the thornbirds but as always thanks for the input

No problem, hopefully someone that has actually owned a set wil chime in :chug:

X2 on never actually owning a set of ThornTurds, but I have never heard a good thing about them in any environment.

X3 everyone I know that owned them (only one person) said they were junk.

I own a set, they came with the jeep from PO. I guess the PO couldn't seem to get anything right, after reading feedback on them from you all. I wish I could give you some feedback on them myself, but haven't gotten the opportunity to test them out in the mud yet. They are loud on pavement though.

In just loose dirt type mud they do ok, but if it's sticky like clay, they clog up easy.
They are a good dry dirt, trail type tire from what I've seen.

They may look good but they suck!

I did not know they still made the POS's.
Seems there is a fool born every day though. And if they still make Thornbirds then some poor sap will end up with them on his rig.

I've run Super Swampers for over thirty years.
Some great tires, but I don't know what they were thinking when they came up with that pile of:dung:.

I run Thornbirds. Yeah they are loud on pavement but my CJ doesn't see much of that.I like them for deep snow, I haven't tried them in much deep mud(6-8 inch deep is all I can find).

if you can sell them for a better price than you can sell that motor do it but i had a friend that had some given to him and he took them off and bought new tires haha... (they suck)

Let us resurrect this thread for current discussion :D

Several years ago a "buddy" gave me a set of Thornbirds. I ran them for almost a full month before I removed, burned, cut their heads off, and buried them in the back yard.

On road they sucked. Offroad they sucked. Even sitting in the driveway they sucked. :(

changing the topic just slightly, how do we feel about Super Swamper SSR's??
these will be pretty much just off road tires.

The SSR is like it's cousin the TSL radial. The big difference between the two is the SSR has a tighter tread pattern and are siped a little better.

They were the answer to the TSL radial...trying to get a little more street friendly tire. My opinion is it was wasted development. The TSL radial is plenty quiet on the road, wears great, and is excellent offroad.

I ran them for several years in 32" and 33" flavors.
