I recently purchased a heavy duty tie rod and drag link for my CJ7 the new one as well as stock one mounted to knuckle from the bottom with castle nut on top. I've seen people with the tie rod and drag link on the top instead but the hole in knuckle only allows it to fit from bottom has anyone done the over the knuckle? If so what did you do just use reamer to make hole bigger?

What your referring to is known as the tie rod flip. Yes you ream the holes from the top and then use inserts from a reputable source like the ones from:

I also used this kit on my CJ5 and it seems to work well. As for the helm joint option a few things to be careful of. Heims are not DOT approved so if it's a street rig and you get in a severe accident or are required to do inspections it may not end well for you. Also the picture above does not have a safety washer on the bolt head in case the bearing fails. If the bearing becomes unsteaked it will simply come off over the bolt and the result on the freeway will not be good. Just my 2 cents.

I guess I should have stated this was offroad only. Good tip on the safety washer. I'll look into that.

Yeah I've noticed most of the companies selling heim
Joint steering are including saftey washers with their kits so good on them for that. It's a pretty simple and cheap insurance policy. :chug:
