Having trouble dropping the rod end from the knuckle. I got the pitman side, but the knuckle side is giving me fits. Tried heat and a sledge, got penetrating on it over night, I'll try again in the morning. Any words of wisdom?

I've had good luck by using a tie rod puller. crank it tight as you can than use two hammers, hold one on one side of the knuckle as a back up and than hit the other side of the knuckle with the other one.

I had the same problem with mine last week. I tried everything. I ended up buying a pickle fork for $11 and had it off in 2 min.

Maybe it's just me but I've had better luck with a tie rod puller than a pickle fork.

x2 what old dog says I've had trouble with tie rods and pitman arms useing pickel forks. But with the puller it puts all the pressure on the end of the rod and pushes the bolt or rod out the hole. I've tried beating on them with pickel forks and sometimes there just to rusted or tight and the pickel fork just bounces off instead of wedgeing the two pieces apart. Exspecialy with pitman arms you can accually mess the steering box up. Know this from experance. Luckly with a couple a hits to the steering box rod it went back up but now steering is a little tighter. Just my 2 cents tie rod and pitman arm pullers are the way to go there cheap maybe $10 at northern tools. Oh and exspecialy on orginal parts on old veichles or eq. As most know by know I've work on an old tractor or 2 growing up, and now.

I ended up with a fork, took a while but got it. I did not see a tie rod puller. The fork will come in handy down the road I imagine! 10 bucks!

Nice! Pickle fork and a mini sledge is my favorite combo. Tends to tear up the boot but I useually replace parts anyways
