hey guys i have a '77 CJ5 with the solid steering column. what all can i get a tilt steering column off of and have it be plug and play?

the straightest plug and play would be from another CJ with tilt, after that you need to look at most GM cars from the same years as your jeep. The difference ends up being little things like wiper switches added to the column and the end od the shaft to hook into your sector shaft. I just finished rebuilding a column from a YJ with a wobbly tilt column and it seems that YJ columns up to 91 (maybe later) will also bolt in but you just have to wire up the wipers to the colum or just leave them where they are currently. Oh dont be afraid of columns with wobbly tilt mechanisms. There 4 bolts deep inthe column that you have to retighten, most people will almost give their "junk" columns away. I have to buy a Pivot pin removal tool $10 on top of the wheel puller and lock plate compressor that i already owned and it took about 2 hrs start to finish.

Jeep CJ Steering Column Swap

here is a Cherokee column in a CJ

I don't like the way he handled the shaft connection but , to each his own.

there's not a direct drop in from amc?? like off of a gremlin, javelin, spirit, eagle? those i can find in the bone yard. plus i'm trying to keep it as stock-ish as i can.
