Here is a project I have been considering for a while and more than likely will be thinking about it for a while longer before it actually happens, a tilt steering wheel.
The problem with the mod, as far as I can see is finding a column that does not have a bunch of extra knobs and switches on it, cruse control, dimmer switch and wiper switch come to mind. If any one stumbles upon such a column in a grave yard while looking for other things or if you know of such a column I would be interested to hear about it. There is not a lot about the change in a CJ on the net but if you see any interesting sites I would like to hear about these as well.
Of course if any one has actually already done this please step up.

You planning on putting this in the CJ or the pick-up? 11.png

that should not be too difficult to find. and then again the old stuff gets tougher and tougher, at least that was before cash for clunkers.
elwood, going to do the CJ I don't have that much trouble getting behind the wheel of the J-10.

Ya gotta love CL. :D

I e-mailed him and he never got back to me so I guess he is not interested.

I found an axle I was interested in about 15 miles away from me, it came out on Monday I called him Tuesday and left a message. He texted me on Saturday evening to tell me it was sold. I do not understand how some one could put an add in CL and leave town or ignore the phone for a week.:wtf:

I believe the tilt columns out of the mid/late 70's gm cars are a direct swap. My tilt came from an older car. it had column shift for an automatic but I just cut the lever off and left it at that.

My old CJ2a used what I think was a early Camaro Manual shift car. Seemed to work good, but since I didn't install it, I don't know how much of a bolt-in it was.

Don’t fear the extra stuff, if you don’t want to use don’t hook it up, newer GM columns use standard turn switch so it’s a plug and play. Check out my swap of a early 90's XJ in my 80 CJ

That was a really good job rush, I am totally blown away. That looks do able.
The intermittent wipers and column dimmer switch are icing on the cake. Perhaps I will be lucky enough to find one with out cruise control.
Thanks for the info.

Well hell that’s one more thing for “the list”

If you look closely you will notice the newer column has CC, there is a black cable that runs down from the switch with a 2 prong plug on the end. Just tape it and don’t use it and you will be fine.

Although we have used this for everything from stealth NOS switch, radiator misting device, bleach spry on the rear tires, electric lockers, stealth push button start, exhaust flame kit, and hell if someone will pay us enough we will set it up as a seat ejector ala James Bond!

Only thing is if you go with a 90’s column you will in most cases need the CC control module if you want to use the switch.

is it not just a momentary switch?

No, not on this one anyway, there is a slide switch that turns the CC on (arms the NOS) and a push button that sets the speed (go baby go)

The trekkie in me thinks the self destruct should be voice activated, with a code, you just don’t want to hit that by accident.

Look at the early to late 70's GM cars. Mine came out of a Nova with a floor shifter. Bolted in very easy. Column looks good. A little long, as even raised up, it kinda gets in the way of my belly until I get settled in. I think I'm gonna have to modify my seat brackets and drop the seats a little lower to the floor.
