1979 CJ 7 stock 304 3sp. frame on restoration
I havea stock 79 CJ7 . Currently have OLD tires on it. They say 7.00-15. They measure "about" 30 in high. Waht is typically the biggest tire I can put on it?

I've got 31x10.5x15 on my stock 79 CJ5 . It had 32x11.5x15 when I bought it last year.

7.00-15 is roughly equivalent to a 225/75R15 which is about a 29" tall tire depending on who makes it.

As far as what fits, that depends on what rims you're running. The factory rims are going to be a little narrow. If you swap out rims, you can step up to something like a 31 or 32" tall tire (that tend to be a lot wider) pretty easily.

How wide are your rims? Meaning if they are 10-12in wide you cant put a 8in wide tire.. Now I have 33x12.50x15LT tires on mine with a 6" lift. If you have 8" rims you can go up to 12.50 wide tires.. How high is your lift? If your 4" you can go 33" tires.. If you have 6" lift you can go 35" tires with a 12in rim. What do you run now will help us help you... Thanks brother

You should be able to get away with a 31" tire. Unless you use it off-road, in which case you will get rubbing and short turns.

I have a 2.5 suspention lift on my 84 CJ7 and I was told not to go bigger than 32x10.5 I chose to Put 31x10.5' under it they fit well but they don't look RRRRR enouph if you know what I mean. I was also told that the wider tire will better protect your finders and rims off road that makes sence to me. Good luck. Let me Know what you decide.
