top heavy

With the soft top on (or off) mine, I don't feel its real top-heavy.

Now the people riding in it might dis-agree! The suspension is flexy enough that it scares most people just going around corners on the street.

A few years back I had a front wheel bearing lock up on me going 65 down the Interstate. Now I'm telling you even though I did go completely sideways when the wheel locked up it never came close to rolling, flipping or anything like that. Oh and we're talking a 79 CJ5 3" lift 33" At's w/No top.

Going to have to agree that most CJ's are not that top heavy. Only time I rolled mine was on an e-way when it climbed a median wall and rolled off the top. Even then, it only flipped onto it's side and never made it all the way over.

(stupid black ice)

I dont think the roll over thing is a top heavy issue.

It would be more of a sits higher off the road than a car and easier to roll thing.

My truck has a warning for it. AND I have seen billboards that say "Trucks rock, but they roll too" or something like that.

Or maybe a center of gravity? CJ, arent you the genius?

Correct, CG = Top Heavy (in most peoples terms)...

But the best thing about this thread is it shows that most CJ owners have learned how to drive their rigs. I know I have gone around corners before with a passenger that swore we were going to flip! He couldn't believe that an old CJ could corner the way it did.

It really all comes down to experience. I could flip my Moutaineer if I wanted to!

Oh yea Susie... A genius? I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! :)

I keep up with my friend's little sports cars all the time going around corners and the like, and yes my passengers don't seem to like that, but with my suspension the thing barely leans. Most of the weight of a jeep is located low on the vehicle, especially with big tires, axles, etc. so you would need some extreme angles to put your CG past your tires.

Lets not get carried away here. I have driven cj's for over 30 years and they are not sport cars by any means. You will not keep up with me in my stealth though corners :D

I would have no problem keeping up with your Stealth on corners......

Oh you meant on the road :D
And I love the Stealth.

I forgot to mention the fact that my friends are usually behind me, so they have to slow down when I do.:D
