I have a bunch of p/s pumps from toyota's (tacoma, tundra, etc.) at work with nothing wrong with them except the front shaft seals. My stock jeep pump has seen better days and thought about adapting a Toyota pump to my stock steering box. My lines are old leakers, so it needs new ones anyways. I can get lines made up at the local hyd. shop and it shouldn't be too hard to make a few spacers to get pump lined up with pulley. Probably fit pulley on with a keyway. I guess my question is, any idea on a place to find flow and pressure specs on the pumps. Or anyone whom has attempted this before. I would like to upgrade the box to an AGR, and if the toyota pump flows better, would be alot cheaper than an AGR pump. Did I mention I am cheap. If I can spend 5 hours to make something that saves me $50, I feel a sense of accomplishment. BTW, the pumps are all from trucks with racks, not boxes. Any input.

I found a few threads on using Tundra pump and such but didn't have allot of time to really check it out. Try looking here 1st. It may have a link or two. Modifying the power steering pump - Tundra Solutions Forum

I'll do some more Google Engineering later - working on stripping the old CJ right now...

Basically I need a new pump. I have a few of these sitting around. I am trying to find out if I can get more flow and pressure from a toyota pump. I took one apart the other day. It looks like I can shim the bypass spring and drill the restrictor on the pressure hose. Still don't know if that will flow better than a stock jeep pump, but I think I am going to try it.

I drilled out my output, You wouldn't believe how easily my stock pump flows and i can turn with complete ease. just enlarge the hole right here

That sounds like a great fix! How much can it be drilled out before it gets "iffy" and too thin? Sorry for the possibly dumb question, but I don't think I've ever come across this method before. I know of some racecar drivers who would love this trick if they haven't come across it already.

i dont remember exactly the size, but you can almost double the size of the hole, i think i used a 3/16ths inch bit but dont quote me. i actually learned it from a guy at a jeep salvage yard that i bought my p/s assembly from.
