Transmission Jack

Hope this is an ok place to post this but I’ll go for it. I’m gonna be dropped by the Transmission out of my Jeep. I see Transmission jack adapters on amazon that goes into a floor jack. I was wondering has anyone been creative to make one out of wood. Or even just made one out of metal. Thought about just pulling it but at 200 lbs. I’m not a big guy lol

I may be wrong, maybe others will chime in.. you can pull ur t case to lighten it up. What I have done in the past, 2 guys usually works way better, but get your jack up there close and see where needs to be shimmed up. Use wood to fill that gap as best as possible (or metal shims, etc) and if you can, tie a ratchet strap around the jack and Transmission . That's worked best for me. Just be careful, take ur time, and stay clear. If it's going to fall, let it fall.

The problem with the Transmission adapters for a floor jack is that they are narrow. Even if you securely strap the Transmission to it, just a little bit off center, and the whole thing will tip over. You would be a whole lot better off getting a Transmission jack from some place like Harbor Freight. Mine has a capacity of 800lbs., it will tilt forward and backward, and roll the Transmission side to side for around $159. At around 175lbs for the Transmission alone, you really don't want to drop it. I helped Posi take his Transmission , Transfer Case , and bell housing out as a single unit using this jack. Easy to align when putting things back together. The only problem I ever had with this jack was when one of the tilt stop nuts came off and the Transmission tilted too far and almost fell off.

I have taken my T-18 in/out a couple of times. I did separate the Transfer Case also, I think it weighs around 80 lbs. I did use a tranny jack that I had rented. Got some help by taking off the CJ Transmission cover and the shifter from the Transmission . I did it solo but a helper would have been nice. Have thought about using a tree saver strap to an engine hoist to hold the tranny in position while sliding it in.

Make sure you support the back of the engine, when doing the tranny/t'case removal.

I removed my Transmission and Transfer Case using an ATV jack.
