i have a CJ2a with a steering column from another vehicle. im not sure if its a jeep column or a GM column. the steering shaft runs between the headers and the heat melted the lower steering column bearing. i ordered a new one for a 76 and up cj but its clearly the wrong one. any help would be greatly appreciated. im setting the body back on this weekend so things will hopefully move pretty quickly from here. thanks!

I does look like a 80s CJ tilt column

the daimeter of the shaft is 15/16" and it has 36 splines. does that help at all? i just set the body today and im afraid that bearing is going to hold me up. haha.

You are missing a few parts off the end of that column, unless you already pulled them off. But it looks similar to the '79 Cj column I just put in my '84 CJ7 . Look up "flaming river" steering columns and see if you can find the info you need on their site. Lots of good info on there.

here are some more pictures. the part that the bearing snaps into is a sleeve that slides into the lower column. i havent contacted flaming river yet but i have looked on their site and have searched google up and down. i cant find any other bearing sleeve that looks like this.

Not going to be any help on the column ID but if you want to avoid that happening in the future get some header wrap. With fenderwell dumps, I don't think you will want to wrap the entire length to the collectors as it will get quickly tore up from debris. I ran the wrap just past the fender opening. And then use the same stuff on the steering column. I wrapped that completely to the firewall.

yeah i already have the wrap on hand for that. i couldnt believe that the person that built this jeep didnt have it on there in the first place. i just hope that someone recognizes this column bearing so i can get it together. im really not wanting to install a different column over a probably $10 bearing.
