Hey everyone - first timer on removing a tub.

I'm thinking about cutting through the body mounts (haven't decided), but I want to be sure I'm getting all the mount points before I start yanking. As a side, I tried to unbolt a couple of them and they are "spinning" free... see additional pics below.

This is where I figure the mounts are... The Xs are completely rusted and therefore already "disconnected." The red dots indicate a  because I seem to have located some spacers in there which I haven't fully investigated. Do I have the mount locations generally correct? Missing any? Thanks

Here's what the bolts look like...from topside - taken by sneaking my hand up in there. This is the part that is spinning free when I try to unbolt from the bottom.

I used a sawzall and just cut my bolts. Once I got the body off I drilled and retapped the bolt holes

Most of mine snapped off or twisted the body and captured nut right out. The 2 rear ones were barely even there but def. not even attached. There are 2 braces over the gas tank area that come off the crossmember body mount and support the body a little further back, at least on the later 80's models.
Save the front grilles mounting washer and sleeve if you can. Not all body bushing kits contain new ones so you may need it.

I should've noted that this is a '79 CJ5 ... Based on what you're saying above, I'm going to have to remove the gas tank so that I can get to the braces that go from the crossmember to the tub? Do you know if that is the case on a late CJ5 (I see you have a CJ7 ). That tank and skid plate are so rough looking I was hoping to get the tub off without touching the tank and then deal with the tank after. Can't be done?

Thx

I was able to use a recip saw and a longer blade and cut from under the wheelhouse. The brace will hang onto the tub once that one is cut. The mount (#5 above) is both the mount for that spot and also the mount for the one end of the brace to the next mount back; that is, on the later models. I can't say for sure about the earlier models or the CJ5 's. My guess is the 5's might not even have this brace since the bed is shorter.
Here's how it was on mine. The mount/bushing itself is missing and the body is lifted up some but you can see the brace.

Based on what you guys are saying, I'm definitely going to saw them stead of trying to remove them. It seems like where I have marked the diagram above is where the bolts are going to be... and it looks like removal of the tank would make things a lot easier.

..Oh and thanks for the 2 cents regarding the bolt for the grill. I saved it but I'll have to grab the sleeve.

The two you have indicated in red are the rear-most mounts on the crossmember.

Interestingly....I just got done throwing a 1" body lift this last weekend on the CJ and totally forgot about the supports behind the rear wheels. I removed the "4" on each side, and the front clip mount and started jacking up the body. I was mildly surprised when the rear end started coming up off the ground...

Because I don't have a gas tank, I was able to access those bolts pretty easily.:D

Okay so I worked on it for about 2 hours tonight and dis-attached exactly two body mount locations. Alright so there was a trip to home depot in there (I had to get new sawszall blades). Whoever said using a sawszall was like cutting through glue is correct -- unless you can manage to loosen the bolts enough to get the blade in there without cutting into the rubber.

The first wasn't too bad--the second, I was able to get in through the top and put a clamp on the other side so that I could loosen the bolt a bit. After that, there was enough room to get the blade in there without cutting into the rubber.

It was about that time that I grew tired from my after-work project and decided to settle down on the couch with a quality adult beverage.

More tomorrow (hopefully).

Oh... and I tried the grinder, but it seemed more pain-in-the-*** than the above, so I gave up on that.
