83 CJ7 , no modifications, 6 cyl, 4 spd, When I am traveling at about 30-50 miles per hour and let off the gas, the jeep swerves to the right. I have been told to check the rear suspension, the front suspension and mounts. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had this problem once when I had a new detroit locker, which failed and was only driving one wheel. It really jumped one way or the other depending on drive or coast.

Is it possible you have a broken differential problem? Maybe a spider gear failure or lock-up?

Just a guess....Good Luck

Also check the tightness of leaf spring u -bolts. One side could be loose.

This would be my guess and it would be in the rear.

^^Everything they all said^^. Also check your motor and Transmission mounts.
Does it go left when you give it gas?

Have you looked at the front brakes.. maybe with the gas applied its driving through a sticky caliper.. or some bearings that are ton the way out.

I also had this problem when I first got my CJ. I think Incommando is closest in the above replies. I think the axle is moving when you apply the gas. In my case it was loose u-bolts on one side of the alxe. It sounds like Incommando had a leaf spring that was loose on one end. Either way, it sounds like one side of the axle moves forward as you accelerate. And then moves back as you let off the gas. At least that's what I am thinking. Check out your u-bolts and suspension bushings.

my 95 would vere into traffic when i pressed the gas and swerve into mail boxes when i hit the brakes, i had my steering box tightened and replaced a blowing power steering Oring (unrelated problems) and never had a problem again!

tightened up the rear u-bolts and it improved it 90%, just a small amount of swerve at 55-60 mph. Hardly noticeable. Thanks to all!!!!

Glad to hear you got it fixed.:chug:

Thanks to all, I have a long list to check tomorrow.

You might look for worn-out tierod ends. Mine on an '80 CJ7 that has seen a lot of rocks (before I got it) are so wallowed out that I can slide them side-to-side just by hand pressure. Imagine what happens when engine torque on the rear drive shaft moves them to one side and holds them there, then you let off the gas and the drag on the drive train with engine in idle moves the tierod slop to the other end of the spectrum. I started at the leaking rear bearing seals and will get to the tierod ends in their turn.

I notice the wear most when I change lanes and the front wheels cross the crown in the road. It kinda darts to the downhill side. So I don't drive real fast, maybe not even when I change out the tierod ends.
