Ultimate Adventure 2010 - Getting There
It's dark o'clock in the morning and Ali and I are meeting at the 4-Wheel & Off-Road World Headquarters, this can only mean one thing, Ultimate Adventure.
Miles Covered: 1,200
Mt. Dew's Drank: 4
Cracker Barrels Eaten At: 1
Thunderstorms: 1
Bugs Killed: Hundreds
Ali and I are not morning people, that's a fact, so leaving in the wee hours of the night is not something we enjoy doing, but with a whole lot of miles to cover to get to the beginning of Ultimate Adventure 2010 it had to be done.
This year we are heading out in relative comfort in a lifted 2008 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited. We've got plenty of space for our gear, and plenty of capability to keep up with all the killer rigs that are going to be on UA '10. But along with that comes frequent fuel stops thanks to the 14mpg average and relatively small fuel tank.
So far the trip has been uneventful, unlike last year where Ali and I came to the aid of a rolled Explorer on I-40. We've been in touch with all of the participants and so far it looks like most have begun their trek to the start of the event as well. Along with them Kevin McNulty and Alan Huber are close behind us, and Rick Pewe and Fred Williams along with this year's UA Vehicle are somewhere in these United States, presumably close to the starting point.
That's all for now, keep checking back right here for updated coverage of the entire Ultimate Adventure 2010 trip, from start to finish! Enjoy!
