So I wanna put an amc v8 in my Cj (either AMC 304 of 360) I also want an automatic Transmission . And going yo keep my Dana 300 . What are my options for transmissions that can hold up. Also won't this make my drive shaft really short? Was also thinking about putting a Dana 44 in the rear if I can find one

Pretty sure you want the GM Turbo 400 . With the 7, your wb will be fine.
I think there is one in the classifieds.

I've got an AMC 360 in mine. Went with the GM Turbo 400 and its like everyone says it is. Though I'm still stuck with a QuadraTrac TC. Saw a killer deal on CL and bought an offset set of Dana 44 axles front and rear from a Cherokee that I couldn't pass up. Love the combo so far, but obviously I'm gonna go with a Dana 300 when I can.

The easiest swap will be a TF999 to make keeping your Dana 300 easier along with giving you some stock driveshafts to grab as well. Is it as strong as the GM Turbo 400 ? Nope.

It will be easily swapped in with no adapters though. They did come behind the AMC 304 for a year or 2. By now all those autos should be ready for a rebuild. I think youd be fine with a rebuilt TF999 . Just make sure you dont end up with the TF904 that came behind the 4 cyl. Cjs

727's are pretty tough, bolt up right to the Dana 300 . The front drive shaft is pretty close to the pan of you don't have a 4" lift.
