Hi All,

I ordered a rubber gasket for my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l aluminum valve cover and it's rubber with a thin sponge type material on both sides. I'm used to the cork ones. I usually use an rtv sealant of some sort on the cork. My mechanic uses a spray gasket sealant on the cork also with no trouble. I've never had mine leak with either install.

Question is can I use the spray adhesive on the rubber one with the sponge? Or? Anyone care to give me the proper procedure and sealant with the rubber sponge gasket. I've never used one of these before. Link below

Thanks

That is meant for a plastic valve cover NOT an aftermarket aluminum cover. I don't suspect a sealant will be any less effective but I would imagine you would need more to "fill" the cellular foam air space ultimately squeezing it out when you compress it. Sealant could end up where it doesn't belong.
I always use a cork gasket in this application (aftermarket aluminum) with the red spray on tacky gasket treatment and nothing else.
Leak free.
Just my two cents.

The rubber gaskets were meant to go on dry from what i remember.

Look for a Fel-Pro gasket, you should be able get either cork or rubber.

If you end up with a cork gasket, I have had real good luck with Permatex High Tack spray sealer on cork gaskets. Clean up both surfaces good, then spray the gasket on both sides, attach it to the valve cover the seat it and tighten down.
