Hey guys, I drive an '84 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l 5spd. My speedo's shot and I'm replacing it with a set of VDOs. I have no idea which hall-effect electronic sending unit to buy. Apparently, the choice is "push-on Transmission sender" or "thread-on Transmission sender..." I'm reluctant to think it's THAT easy to figure out. :dunno:

I guess my real question is: Has anyone used a VDO electronic speedometer? Which sender did you buy?

Thanks!

Vince

Vince, I put a VDO in my glass buggy , VW powered, and used the thread on style. The manual speedo cable connected to the back of the sending unit converting the manual spinning to an electronic signal for the gauge. The cable threaded (screwed) onto sending unit.

Hope that helps.

Yeah... It'll help when I'm ready to get my '63 Bus going! :)

I think the difference between the VW and Jeep applications is on the VW you modify the mechanical cable whereas the Jeep application just has an electric sender instead of the mechanical cable.

I just wish they had a (year/make/model) search for the senders... :bang:

Thank you though!

You need the thread on type. Your CJ uses a GM style thread on speedo cable. Push on is for Frods.

Thank you! I kinda figured they'd have like 40,000 different thread combinations...
Guess they left that for the temp sender... UGH! :censored:
