It has the original I6, 5 speed manual tranny and I know nothing about transfer case and diffs..
If someone is reading this please send me a message about how to figure out these things and I will get it straight
So my wife accepted a job in Arizona and we will be moving. I think the best thing to do is ship our cars separate from our belongings (our stuff will be in storage for a few months).
So my question is. ... any special considerations that I need to ask to transport my jeep? I am thinking I'd put on the soft top and doors. Can I pack any of my stuff in it or my wife's car during transport? Any recommendations on companies or carriers?

I hope posi will chime in here as he has shipped Jeeps and should be able to help you.

I've shipped four vehicles - but a lot further than TX to AZ. (1 from PA to England - 2 from England to PA)

Your shipping company may be different, but mine were particularly twitchy about anything being in the vehicles. They wanted them empty - perhaps to deter theft.

As for recommendations - ever consider USHIP.COM?

Best regards,

Ray

I would not put anydangthing in either car, that can be seen from the outside.
TX to AZ ---I'd drive'em, if it was me.........

I don’t think I would put any personal belongings in the vehicle. However the last time I shipped my CJ Bill D loaded the passenger compartment with loads of parts, SM 420 Transmission , B-housing, 8247 warm winch, DS, along with plenty of other parts. I was a little concerned about the winch but everything made it just fine.

I’ve shipped several Jeeps in the past and used a broker, now I deal with the driver directly and save a couple hundred dollars. Dealing with the diver gave my “a bit more” confidence packing the Jeep (I was still a little concerned about my 8247 making it home though).

You will have to wait longer to ship if your dealing with a diver but I wasn’t in any hurry.

I’m hesitant to recommend a brocker because they just sub the work out. I would suggest going with a trucking company and check out their reviews.

Side note: just because some charges a lot of money doesn’t mean their good. The guy that bought my white 78 shipped it back to Texas and paid what I thought was too much money. The guy that showed up had a beat trailer and truck, matter of fact I spotted a bubble on his rear tire and informed the driver, wasn’t how long he had been running on it.

On the flip side the driver I used had a nice new truck and trailer however, he only runs from CO to New England.

How do I go about trying to find a driver directly?

My plan is to drive my daily driver there myself. Ship my jeep and my wife's car while she and our 5 year old son fly there and stay with family.

Use a load board. Most load boards are used by brokers and charge a fee. Some are free.

Based in Austin TX

After first using a broker I worked a deal with the driver to cut out the middle man (broker) on the second run and any more that I may have.
Thanks for the guidance, things are falling in line quickly. ... almost like it was meant to happen.
Listed our house friday, got a contract on it Tuesday!
Now I just need to find a job in Arizona.

I had my cj shipped back from Oregon years ago. My brother in law had it and did not fasten the hard top down. I think it is somewhere in Idaho now[emoji41] I don’t think I would leave stuff in it with a soft top.
