I have a 1965 cj-5 with the original 4cyl engine, t-90 traney and dana 18 transfer case. it has a 3" lift and was an air force jeep.
I have a 65 CJ5 with the original 4 cyl engine. I ordered a new water pump and noticed the new one was missing one of the drain plugs, the one just above and to the left of where the hose connects going to the bottom of the radiator. the original pump that I was replacing had a plug in that hole. I called kiser willys where I got the pump to see if it was missing and the guy there told me that that plug is suposed to be open. That doesen't seem right to me does anyone know if that hole is supposed to be plugged or not?

sounds to me like a wheep hole. when it starts leaking out the hole is when you need to replace the water pump. i believe its there so you know when the seal is going bad and it drains there instead of onto the bearing.
