1980 CJ7 AMC 304 v8 is a Laredo but the only decal is on the glove box. Currently flat black. My Son is enrolled in College for auto body Technician and wants to paint my jeep. I have to pay for the paint but not supplies or labor. I want it to look like an 70's-80's Jeep, not a wrangler. I was thinking Tan or the light purple color available in 1982...what do you think? Got any pictures of what you have done?

what color was it originally?

I'd pick tan over purple, I'm not a purple kind of guy.:)
Maybe pick one of the factory options for that year? I believe you can get factory decals to restore the original look too.

Earth tones, brown/green colors get my vote. I like my Jeep to blend in with nature.

Why not restore it to it's original Laredo colors? I prefer the red w/ silver stripes and lettering, to the more common black w/ silver.
Rudy's CJs - Unrivaled one of a kind 83 CJ7 Laredo from California in original Red Paint. A Jeep to keep for life.**$17,500* Sold!**********Rare chrome rear bumperettes.* Nice towing receiver for towing and light hook up!**Super rare

I do not know...

Leaning towards Tan...

On the VIN tag on the firewall there should be the VIN number and the factory paint code, 1 letter and 1 number combo.

I vote for red. Painted mine 68' Corvette Rally Red.

That's a sharp lookin' Jeep. What wheels are they, chrome modular's, Kragar's maybe? The pics a bit blurry and it doesn't enlarge.

My personal opinion is Im tired of the red on jeeps. The Sherwood Green is a rare color and looks good. The Silver mist looks geat with blue decals. Youd probably like the Sand Tan as well. Try and find these paint codes off line. Computers wont do them justice , especially the Sherwood Green.

My 1972 CJ5 was Powder Blue. It looked sharp with chrome rims, the black interior, and white Whitco top. (Yes I said white; it was a b#tch to keep clean!)

Is the sherwood green as dark as forest green? I looked on line and I know the pics don't do it justice, but it seemed dark. If that is the case that's my vote, but I don't like red.

Yes its darker. Ill post up a pic when I get home from work

if it's darker than forest green, then that's my vote for sure, with a darker blue running a close second

I know it's pure preference. But, if you desire the "factory" look, go with a color that was available for your model year. I think that IF I had a 100% stock CJ, and I wanted to restore it to a factory look, I'd go by the original paint code, and I would implement the original-style decals as well. Again, pure preference.....my $0.02. Happy New Year!!!!
