Newbie here, with an 84 CJ7 . Live in Sacramento CA. Going to take the jeep for it's first ride in the lower elevations of the Sierras just to make sure everything works. Minor terrain of course, no Rubicon stuff. So what do you all keep in your Jeeps in case you have a break down? I need to start a list. Thanks!!

Jeff

Hey Jeff
you now CA Assoc of 4 wheel drive clubs has a website that has a basic 4x4 safety list in it. It is really a basic kit but one all kits are built off of.
Your question will get you list from mild to wild here, list from 10 items to 100
sit back and watch them come, this is going to be intertaining:lpopcorn::lpopcorn:

Wow, Baja, I thought you would have had a lot more to say on this :). If you are just taking it out for a shakedown run, go through it pretty well before you leave, and just keep yoru basic tools with you, a jug of water, and minimal supplies like you would for any day trip outdoors. If you are not going to do anything more than just a trail ride to get out, that is. Here is a pretty goods thread of things you should look at prior to leaving. http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f49/what-do-after-getting-cj-home-3563/ Hope this helps, and let us know how the first run goes.
:chug:

well I would want to think if he was about to take it out for a 1st run he had already went through that list.http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f49/what-do-after-getting-cj-home-3563/ I wrote it because so many guys were asking where to start on a jeep.
I have a list of what I take out with me, but it is far from basic
my list
high lift
cb
2 meter
spare tire and tire tool
basic tool box,
common spare parts such as u joints oill, water, b fluid, wires and connectors fuses, collection of spare bolts, nuts, and washers, tie wire, duct tape, electrical tape, spare warn hub,
tire repair kit
first aide kit
blanket
pancho
energy bars and e food, incase stuck for thenight
1 gallon of water per person
tow strap, tree strap, k energy strap, shackles and a come a long if a winch is not on jeep
flare and reflective triangle
a 20 spot in a tin in tool box
2 days of high blood pressure medicine
repair manual
points and capacitor
tarp
folding chair
binoculars
camera
gold pan
can opener with a wine corker
If it is winter and I am exploring the desert I throw in a kilt, yep all 9 yards, very warm at night, but that is a heritage thing, and to answer the question, boots
I am sure there is more such as maps and guide books, snake bite kit, etc that are in the container I have set up
But that list would keep you going a few days

When I go out on an easy trail ride I have.
Spare tire and jack
tool box with basic tools
extra ujoints (they are always in the jeep)
a tree strap and snatch m strap and d-rings (always in the jeep)
first aid kit (again always in the jeep)
food and drink
and the winch on the jeep.
If we're head'n for tough trails the list changes some.

I know, I have the easy stuff and the hard stuff and the going out for a week stuff
Basic stuff is like yours in a small container, more stuff like the list I have is another container the first fits in, and then there is the trailer I tow when out for a week with all spares and camping supplies.

also what about fallen tree's/ branches.

hand Saw, Axe, chainsaw

Like I said, this will get interestimg:lpopcorn:

I'm a new jeeper, but not a rook to camping in my area so thanks for all the replies. Do know the basics. U Joints I didn't think of, so good answer! Did get 4 new ones with the Jeep. Fuses, yea gotta find the fuse panel first to see what type. Have an old ammo can I can pack with useful things and keep in the Jeep at all times. Good deal! Thanks for the tips!

Now about that kilt. Nope! Double nope!! Two Chocolate Labs. instead. Bears aren't afraid of men in kilts. (unless it comes with a holster) Lots of bears up there. (rope to haul the cooler up in a tree. another good tip. no bear lockers where I can go now) Thanks!!

Jeff

Anything youve broken on a previous wheeling trip. For some of us thats gonna mean bringing a whole nother Cj. Im still holding my list until more replies are posted.

It's tough to say. There are a lot of variables to this "list". Where am I going, how many others are going, how long is this trip. If I'm going down to the Outer Banks for a day of screwing around in the sand dunes, I'm not going to take much. A tow strap, a tool bag and some misc parts. If I'm going up to Rousch Creek for a three day weekend of wheeling, that's a whole different story with a whole different list...

Think I gotta get a tool box made to fit cjs and mount it to the top of the inside fender well for all the necessities . An ammo can aint working. Too small. Anyone have any fave jeep supply links here?

The wife told me that I'd become obsessed with this jeep if I bought it. She's right. No more posts. (till tomorrow) I'm already thinking about ways to spend more $$$$. Lol.

My kit is kind of modular. I use a few plastic containers.
My basic kit is a tool kit, recovery straps, shackles, firstaid kit, tire repair kit, fuses, and a few other items in a small container, which can fit in teh next step up container, with a few other of the smaller containers. That way you are organized with different stuff for different situations.
