Vehicle(s)
86 Cj7 Laredo. All original with 258, T5, D300, D44 rear(I think), D30 front.
I wrote an intro about myself and what I'm looking for in new member section. I'm in South Carolina and looking for a decent CJ7 with a AMC 304 . Do not care about paint, interior, wheels etc as I will be refurbing back to original as far as my talents and wallet let me. I read the articles on what to look for and where to check but really don't have a clue to a fair price. I have found a few that come close to my wants from $4k - $7k, my question is what should I expect to pay for a non-modded or rebuilt 7 that is normal rust on tub and frame and looks like a 30 year old Jeep would with no restoration? Any help appreciated and if I figure out how I can post a few pics of some I've found.
Thanks

The 4K-7K range is about 'rite' w/AMC 304 .
In your area-Rust is a huge issue.
Look for a jeep in the desert areas. IF you have the means to.
Don't limit yourself to a AMC 304 . You can get a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , 6cyl and the AMC 304 swap is a bolt in.

I'm in NC and looked for a year before my purchase. Anything that runs and has no rust on the frame you will pay at least $4,000.00 and it will be a junker. Anything better in the $6,500.00-$7,000.
I paid $3,200.00, fiberglass tub, fenders, and hood not in the greatest of shape, did have a fiberglass top and metal doors, runs like a top and drives as good as any Jeep I've had BUT needs a frame and does have an automatic Transmission .

Thanks for the replies, I missed out on a really nice 81 that sold. There are a few I'm going to checkout over the next few days. How are the fiberglass tubs? Is it better value wise to try and find a lightly rusted complete metal original? I have seen a few with fiberglass that seemed decently priced.

Me personally, I'd stay away from fiberglass. Might be fine for a street Jeep, and I'm sure a bunch will say they wheel the snot out of theirs with no issues as well. Been around and helped build a few 1930's era street rods, and just dont like the fit and feel, or the sound (door closing, etc). Just seem cheap. Wouldn't want to be in one in an accident either.

It is a long ways from your location, but I have found Phoenix AZ and Albuquerque NM to usually have a decent selection of old cj's for sale, and they are usually pretty rust free, check craigslist.

I bought fiberglass because once I'm done I don't ever plan on touching it again (rust). But mine will be mostly a sunny day ride with the occasional snow trips.
As far as value I thing it depreciates the $CJ7 $.

X2 and you end up fighting ground problems.
