My 1986 CJ7 is missing a toggle switch or a lever on the steering column - just below the turn signal lever. I have attached a picture. Can anyone tell me what could have been there before? I want to buy a new one and fit it. Please help!
The steering column does not appear to be the titling type.

Thanks!

The column tilt lever would be just below the turn signal.

But that doesn't appear to be it. There must have been some sort of specialty device mounted there. Have any history of the CJ?

Strange-What is the object on the plastic bezel plate on the dash panel.
Some-type of ign remote start maybe??

If you mean the red knob, it is the switch for the extra lights that were mounted on the bumper before.

My Jeep was made in Venezuela and exported to Europe. It is a World Cab.

Interesting. Obviously going to a country where the drive on the right side of the road.

Do think it saw government service? Either in the military or local governments?

I haven't a clue...

From your picture it is difficult to see if there are electrical contacts there. If there are, how many are there? I would look underneath the dash and see if there are extra wires you could identify if this thing has the contacts.
If it does, I would suspect some sort of switch. That's just a guess though. Really need to answer the above questions first.

I remember renting a CJ in Mexico in the late 80's. In addition to the key you also got what I would call a dongle that plugged in somewhere, can't remember. It was some sort of anti-theft device. This could be the remnants of something like that.
