What is the proper way to bleed a disc drum combo brake unit? I have only done drum units. What pit falls do I need to be aware of?

As with any brake setup I(drums or disks)), you always blead from the farthest brake to the closest.

Left rear, right rear, right front and then left front.

X2 nothing to it just keep fluid in the mastercylinder while your doing it :chug:

Is there naything that needs to be done with a valve. It was mention in the repair manual or was that for a different set up?

If you are talking about the proportioning valve, just bleed as normal - nothing needs to be done about it.

Thanks CJ and fellows

For what it is worth... When I first bleed mine using the normal farthest away method I could not get a good results. My son-in-law said he thought he read somewhere that jeeps with a proportioning valve should be bled front/back/front.

Tried that and it worked. Seems weird to me, but it worked.

So, if the traditional method doesn't work, give this a try.

Last night I was trying to bleed the brake after installing longer lines and starting from the rear, wasnt working at all. This morning I read Duhwhat's post, worked like a charm. :chug: Thank you sir, you saved me from un necessarily changing out the M/C, cause that was next ;)

I guess it makes sense, since our CJ's are made up from left overs from all the other auto makers. Effectively this make's them mutt's, and we all know that mutt's make for the best dogs that sometimes have odd (weird) traits ;)

Can you please futher explain the front/back/front method???

First bleed the right front, then left front.
Then right rear followed by left rear
Go back and finish doing fronts again.
In a nutshell , you always start with the wheel cylinder furthest away from the M/C, and you would normally start to bleed from rt rear 1st. However, in some cases with Jeeps you have to start with the fronts, but you always finish with the fronts no matter what way you do it that works for you.
