looking to put a soa setup on my 72 CJ5 . Heard that wagoneer leafs would be a good way to go. Then heard i should use yj leafs. What ya"ll think would work the best?

TJ leafs would suck wind since they never had them. SO the wagoneer leafs would win this competition.

was this a trick question??

YJ's have leafs, TJ's coils.

There have been several other recent discussions covering SOA's.

There is A LOT involved in doing a spring over axle conversion, I'm going to suggest a lot of research before you decide this is something you want to dive into.

oh thanks. New on the site just got the jeep.

Welcome to the site RAWDAWG :chug:

An SOA is not something that I would suggest a shadetree mechanic or the weekend wheeler undertake lightly. I'm not going to try to pursuade you from doing it, but do your homework. There is a lot involved in when you start changing driveline and steering geometry.

you should drive it for a while before you start changing it, who knows you may even like it the way it is. Look around see what they are running on the trails.

what about those bolt on kits are they safe. Seem that welding would be stronger and not move. And as far as the high steer can you peice one together or buy a setup?

Ya i dove it and it feels as stiff as my lowrider on hydraulics

the problem with the soa is it changes the camber on the front axle which make driving at speed interesting. the fix involves cutting the ends off the front axle and changing the clock position on it, it isn't rocket surgery but it is a pretty good sized job. I recomend sky jacker for a smooth ride, at least as smooth as it gets in a CJ. how much lift were you looking for?

trying to get 35's or 37's on it. This is a trail rig not going to be on the road that much.

I'm running 38.5" on my rig.
I run SOA with 4" YJ springs.

wagoneer springs have an off set center pin which will increse your wheel base, yj springs don't.

stay away from the bolt on soa kits, if you go that way do it right.

My CJ7 is in the process of getting its SOA. I have a Dana 44 front axle and stock YJ springs. You will have be careful how high you get your Jeep because of the lack of wheelbase:chug:

so i should look for the yj springs? instead of wagoneer springs.

IMHO yes, that's why I used them. You do understand the front springs are wider than stock CJ, so you'll need wider shackles & mounts.;)

Yes i have read the rear will fit right in but the front i need wider mount and shackles. Know what about the high steer set up. Do i just need to buy brackets that puts the linkage on the top. Or is there more to it. Thanks for all your help.
