what's the best way to price the value of a CJ7

I have a 1980 CJ7 V8, currently at 130,500 miles, automatic Transmission with black hard top and doors.
Original white paint w/ the Laredo (beige colored) logo/pin stripping and CJ7 plate.

Everything on this jeep is pretty much stock. I had the Transmission rebuilt about 8 years ago.
Lifters and/or valves will need some possible work, but other than that the engine runs fine.
I use it for light commuting (hence the low mileage) and it hasn't been off-road.

I redid the interior of the jeep. Line-X all inside with the driver side needing to be Line-X again after the brake master
cylinder leaked fluid for the second time (!!). It has black carpeting, new passenger seat, black dashboard (formerly
beige). I have flame-printed seat covers and the roll over bars will need to have their foam covers replaced (dried out)

Overall a pretty special CJ7 (like most of them) and sadly I may have to sell her after 10.5 years together.
I'm the 3rd owner of the vehicle.
I look to be moving out of state by the end of August. I'll be looking for someone who will take care of her and is
a CJ7 enthusiast. Based in Los Angeles, Calif. it is current with smog and registered until 1/2012

What is the best way to value my CJ7 ?? I was thinking about $7000, but after looking here it looks more like under
$5500. If so, can anyone explain why the low value on these jeeps? Has the economy "devalued" the jeeps?

I think the stock well kept Jeeps are selling better than built up models. The restore craze is kicking in for these models so you may be able to get closer to what you are asking. Don't forget the demographics of your area will dictate sale price so looking on the web at a Jeep for sale in Ohio may have a different price tag then LA or Texas.

I think you are in the ballpark with $5500-$7000, but I doubt it will move fast. A lot depends on the geography, competition (a lot of them for sale locally), and condition. If you are in a hurry to sell, you may be disappointed with the price you can get. If you have patience and can give emphasis to why your CJ7 is better than some 4 cyl YJ selling for less, I think you'll get closer to your target price. What about offering up a selling bonus to friends or a local 4x4 shop? You may want to get a fresh smog cert so that you have it "in hand" (even though it is all done electronically). Be sure to drive it around and be seen -- not just parked.

California seems to be a state that has a plethora of CJ's and mainly
to used for off-roading.
I like to say that having a CJ that is stock with the original AMC 304 V8 and
is automatic will have more of an appeal towards a collector and/or
someone who wants to restore CJ's.
But again price seems to determine the "current trend" of used vehicles.

If I do sell I'm looking to have it sold by mid-August. It's my only vehicle
and still need it for commuting around town.
