85 cj7 258 manual big project
so i am trying to figure out what is the right thermostat for and 85 CJ7 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , i just installed a new heater core and am getting zero heat and im thinking it might be the thermostat but not sure any help would be great:confused:

Sounds to me that it's not the thermostat more likely air in the system. I usually use this tool, once you try it out, you'll love it.

Automotive Tools - Spill Free™ Funnel, LIS24610

You just fill the antifreeze in it, start the truck and let it run. Add coolant as it goes in. Eventually, the thermostat will open, it'll suck in what he needs and just keep adding some in the funnel just above where the cone ends. It'll stabilize and you won't see any air bubble anymore. 1 or 2 thermostat openings and you should be good. You should feel heat from your heater at that point.

That should get rid of the air in the system wich would probably be the issue here.

Or the trap for the hot air is in the wrong position.

As for the thermostat, a good Stant unit is all it takes.

Hope it helps

OldskoolCJ is on the right track - air in the cooling system. After replacing the heater core there may still be air in the system. After driving the jeep have you double-checked the coolant level? The air may have come to the top of the radiator by now.
Also what's the temp gauge read? It should be 190 degrees. (that's also the rating of the thermostat)

so i tried what ya said but that didnt work so i tore into the thermostat and voila there wasnt one so now that its replaced i got plenty of hot air thanks alot for the help
