A flat sheet of plastic screwed into my floor panel to cover a large rusted out hole! The large rusted out hole isn't weird I guess, infact, fairly common. The method used to treat it is though.

Did you wash it? or did you use gloves to pick it up?

I picked it up with some pliers and put it in a garbage bag then washed the pliars with deisel
