Thought I would start a thread on what your favorite "I need a little 4x4 therapy" place is.

:grinjeep:

We have a few places we like to go, but my favorite "throw the wife and the dogs in the Jeep and just go!" place would be Coral Hollow Trail - It's in the Sierra's off Hwy 4 between Arnold and Bear Valley - great day trip for us, so as long as the snow isn't too deep! Not too serious, mostly trail but what a view! Nice rock garden at the beginning (or end depending) There is a great little BBQ & Brew spot in Arnold that just tops off the day...

Ok, not as good as the pictures Dave posted, but I am not lucky enough to live in the Rocky's! :D

Where's your favorite 4 Wheel Therapy spot?

Thats a tough one, most of mine are hours away in the middle of the desert. I'll go with closest one ;) Lytle Creek area is the quick place to go, high enough to get snow in winter, a few side canyon trails that most yahoo's dont know about. It's also the lads favorite place to go to :D

Have you done Slick Rock road up that way? it goes from Utica reservoir to Lake Alpine. Pretty serious trail, lots of Jeep clubs wheel it.

Not yet...:( Also want to check out the the stone hot tub at the top of the Barney Riley Trail. Hear it's a pretty cool run.

I hear that you have some excellent trails a little north of you above Clear lake (Mendecino National Forest). Been up there?

Hard saying.
I like a challenge. I also like nice scenery and getting away from people.
I think a couple of my favorite trails would be Black Bear Pass becouse it has everything I love in four wheeling.

Black Bear Pass
or maybe Iron Chest Trail for the rock crawling.

I love the Sierra's but the Rocky's are on my bucket list. Keep posting those pics, they make us all  !

Been up there on my dirt bike but not the Jeep yet, cool area. Not familiar with Barney Riley trail, that up Hwy. 4?
Looks like your Jeep is set up for Slick Rock. Definitely a serious trail, I won't do it again without another vehicle along. Didn't have to use the winch, but almost in a couple of spots. I have a cabin at Boards Crossing (off Hwy. 4) and there is a great little trail that follows the river out of Sour Grass, worth checking out.

One of my favorites is the Piegon River State Forrest. It also has the largest wild Elk herds east of the Mississippi.

Here's a link to check out the Barney Riley, it's south of Tahoe on 89 - It's supposed to be a fairly mellow run, and a good camping trip. About 11 miles round trip. 4x4TrailMaps - Barney Riley Trail

If you want something serious (definitely a group run!!!) check out Hell Hole Trail to Hell Hole Resevoir. 4x4TrailMaps - Hell Hole Reservoir Long drive for a short trail, but it is a rush! One way in, and one way out. Hell Hole is a beautiful spot once you get there, and usually pretty quiet. Needs 33's" and one locker minimum. Very fun run! :D If you can get a canoe or kayak in there with you, I hear the fishing is fantastic (bank fishing sucks... :() - you need a boat because it has steep sides and does not have your typical Sierra fish stock - it has Kokanee Salmon, Mackinaw trout along with the Brown's, and they all like deep water. I haven't heard of Rainbow's or golden's there, kinda wierd for the Sierra's!

Devils Post Pile, Georgetown side of the Rubicon - Last year's snow run (only we didn't have any snow then...).

THAT is why we have 4 Jeeps in the family! :D

Im officially jealous. :chug:

The Devils Post Pile National Monument isn't really a trail, just a neat thing to see. The Rubicon is a trail! As I recall it was around 12 miles long and took our club 4 days to get thru, camping at Loon Lake, Spider Lake, Buck Island Lake, and Rubicon Springs. One of the prettiest trails I have been on, plus the Barret Lake trail just out of Loon Lake.

The section of Rubicon/Wentworth Springs "road" in the pic they just nicknamed "Devil's Postpile" - Don't know why... We have been on the Georgetown side to Loon Lake, and the Tahoe side short of Cadillac Hill on day runs. Wife won't let me beat up her jeep to go all the way through, which is why I'm building the CJ!

Wait, is this the part where I say "I have a dream" or "if you build it they will come?" or something like that??? :D

So your wife wouldn't want to wake up to a view of Spider or Buck Island Lakes?

Nice pics Torx! Were workin' on her... In the meantime, both the kids jeeps are ready, so if I can get the CJ ready, it would be awesome. Whether it's ready or not, the kids and I are planning on running the Rubicon before summer is out. In May we are going to run Slick Rock Trail as a kick-off for the season. I will post pics!

You guys keep me in your contacts list! When you're going I'd love to meet up with you all.

My Uncle and I are about 2 Hr's or so from the loon / wentworth trail head :D:D

We'd love to have a larger group than 2 :chug:

~ Jr

PS - Pete when you're ready to make the long trip, you let me know bud :)

I will definitely post when we are going! We are trying to put together a Slick Rock run as soon as the snow clears a bit more. I'll post that as well.
