I've had the same tires for almost twenty years...Time to get some new ones before these dry up and blow away. Currently running 33/12.5/15's on 15x10 wheels. Wit the 4" lift - no rubbing anywhere. I want to Run the Nitto Trail Grappler's, but the smallest rim is 16". I'm willing to give up 1" of sidewall. American Racing makes the AR767 in a 16". Has anyone tried this rim on an 80's CJ? My concern is the offset, and if there will be any rubbing on the inside?

I run the 33/12.50x15s on an 8" wheel so they don't stick out as far and the steering geometry works best with an oem wheel. I can't really recommend those Nitto's after I put a rock through one of them once. Switching to a 16" tire would probably be a good idea as it seems the tire manufacturers seem to be phasing the 15 inchers out. Make sure you get them with a 5 on 5 1/2" wheel pattern and a center hole big enough for the front hubs.

Thanks. I didn’t know you could get a 12.5” tire on a 8” rim. The only real need I have here is new rubber. So I could just buy what I’ve used before (33/12.5/15 on a 10” wide rim.). But that setup leaves 4” of tire outside the stock flares. They throw rocks often, and kind of look cartoonish. So I want to bring things I at least an inch or two without losing much height. I did a rough measurement of my current backspacing with the wheels on the CJ. At least 4” but possibly 4.5”. Up front, the only thing that would even come remotely close to rubbing is the back lower part of the fender. Plenty of room everywhere else. So more backspace would actually be beneficial and keep more of the tire under the fender. The 16” AR’s have 4.97” backspace from what I can tell. I’m all for the OEMs if I could find some. Mine were gone 30 years ago. I’ll se how hard they are to find. Thanks for the help. I’ll post whatever I end up with. Not sure how to put pics on yet.

At least down here (SoCal) I seem to see stock Cj rims on CL with some regularity. FWIW, I'm running 12.5's on OEM 7" rims with no issues.

I, too am running 12.5 X 33’s on 7 inch rims without a problem. It seems to be my experience that 15 inch tires will be around for some time but 16 inches are becoming harder and harder to find.

According to Nitto's website and 4 wheel parts, they do make a 33x12.50 trailer grappler in a 15" wheel.

Thanks Fellas. I am gonna try the Vision D84s 16x8 wheels and the Big O XTs 285/75/16. If they end up fitting right. We’ll see. Roughly the same height, and a few inches narrower. I’ve read good and bad reviews on the big O’s, but I’ve had two sets on my F250, and the local shop has always honored the warranty for me (Only had to use it for running over a bolt in the road.) And for what I use the Jeep for currently, that should do. Seems like a good idea at the time....... If they fit, I’ll see if I can post some before and afters. Thanks again for all the knowledge.
