1985 Jeep CJ7 Renegade- IL6 -Mopar FI -Tremec 5 speed- Acme hard top- pretty much stock.
I've searched threads and it seems that this question hasn't been answered yet. I understand that the current way of mounting is on the axle housing and the tie rod. Some folks complain that the position leaves much to be desired.
The stock mounting brackets for my 1985 CJ7 should be on the tie rod and leaf spring. I get a little bump steer and want to dampen that with a damper, and would like the OEM mounts. I believe they used the dampers with double ended studs.

I was just looking at 4 Wheel Drive hardware and they have several different styles and brands that look like the stock brackets and they have the dampers, too

Or you could just get aftermarket.

Well, I was able to get the stock oem leaf pack steering damper bracket (goes between the axle housing and the leaf springs), but I still need the tie rod one. I'll settle for a universal one if anyone's got an spare.

Check your stock damper and try to re-use it if it still offers a good degree of resistance. I bought an aftermarket damper and found the quality to be not nearly as good as the original. In fact, the aftermarket damper was much, much easier to move in and out than the original, had cheaper mounting hardware and it appears to me to be exactly the same as all other aftermarket dampers. I think all the aftermarket companies buy the same cheap parts from a central supplier somewhere and sell the parts as unique, but the only thing that makes the parts unique is the cheapo sticker that you put on yourself. I found this to be true with other hardware, not just suspension parts.

I don't have an original steering damper, but since I have KYB gas-adjust shocks all around, I bought the KYB steering damper too. It's part # SS10316. It has the eye on one end (to fit the oem leaf pack mount), and the stab on the other (to fit the oem or universal mount).
KYB is a good brand, and lifetime warranty.
