I'm planning on replacing the body mount bushings on my 1978 CJ5 . I would like to replace the hardware (bolts, etc) with new, Stainless steel while I'm doing this. I'm having trouble finding them. Can someone point me in the direction of replacement hardware?

Now I can’t remember if tractor supply has stainless or not but I buy all my bolts from them because they sell grade 8 by the pound

Grainier carries stainless steel, we use them for all our hardware at work

Where can I find what size bolts to get? I searched the forums and no luck so far.

Just replaced all the body mounts on mine last weekend (1"lift-urethane) and all the necessary bolts and washers came in the box. SS is overkill. Just put anti-seize on the threads and call it good

Bolts can be gotten for a body mount ...... pretty much where ever bolts are sold in your local town. Good old ACE hardware has all the bolts you will ever need, I splurge and get grade 8 nuts, bolts and washers. The local guys like it when I buy from them, you know, that feeding their family thing. The city really likes the tax revenue.

I just bought this 1" poly body lift kit made by Daystar KJ04503BK for my 1976 CJ7 . It came with all the bolts and washers and it was only $126.The bolts are not stainless, but I will put some anti-seize on them. Planning to install it next week. Will be removing a 3" lift and replacing it with a 1" lift.

That is a good question. I would suggest an internet search and a trip to the hardware store to help get an education on standard thread sizes, types of fasteners, and how threads are measured.

I will measure my bolts for you when I get home from lunch

I'm not sure that I would use stainless bolts. I used to think that they would be stronger, But my experience with them turned out bad. You might want to do some research.

On my '77 CJ5 all of the body mount bolts were 3/8-16 except for the back two which are 7/16-14. Sorry, I don't have the lengths. I didn't use stainless because of the tendency of the threads galling. Lots of anti seize and check torque after a couple of hundred miles.

If you go stainless don’t use an air wrench to spin them down. They can seize with no clamping load on the joint. Then you get to cut them off.

Google stainless and you can get them a ton cheaper on the net. Sorry Hedgehog

Something that I recently learned from a gentleman that has been in the pool business for a very long time, is that today's stainless steel is not what it use to be. Depending on what Country is making the product there is a lot of other metals used in the making of stainless steel parts. This is done to make it cheaper to sell. I would stick with grade 5 or grade 8 bolts. Inspect them every year, and then replace as needed. Most of the problems we encounter is because no one did any routine maintenance to their vehicle. Replacing seals, rusted bolts, and bushings should be a common practice. Unfortunately we but vehicles that haven't had any maintenance done on a regular bases, so we want to replace everything with something that won't rust and lasts forever when all we need to do is a little maintenance.
