Hello my alternator on my 1981 CJ5 went out but and I have been looking everywhere for a replacement! When I buy the part most places I find a correct picture but always receive a single belt (https://www.quadratec.com/products/917225_02.htm looks correct but when it comes is missing a belt flange) unit. I have contacted customer support at quadratec and they have been no help. both belts run over the same items would it be safe to remove one?. Yes, you should be able to can pull off the old pully and switch them out. Just be sure the shaft diamater is the same size as well as the belt alignment is correct.

Ayuh,..... Unless yer turnin' a 100+ amp alternator, there's no reason for the twin belts,.....
They just go from the crankshaft to the water pump, then alternator, so the only real load is the alternator,.....

'n as CJ says, Alternator pulleys are swapped out everyday on parts counters all over the country,....
They make a tool that makes the job Easy,...... I've got one,.... ;)

If you go with just one belt, that pulley could be handy for somebody, so don't send it back with the core,....
Alternators generally ship from the manufacturers with the single sheave pulley,.....
If you are runnin' big amps, 'n the single belt squeals, ya might haveta find someone with the tool,.....
