Just did a SOA on my cj. I previously was running 33x12.50x15 on a 8" wide wheel with a 3.75" backspace. Now that I have approximatly 5 1/2" of lift the tires and wheels look really narrow and small. I was planning on going to 35x12.50x15's but not sure what size wheel to use. Am I better off getting another 8" wheel with a more negative offset or go to a 10" wheel with the same offset?

I'm running 35x13.5x15 claws on 10" wheels with 4 1/4" backspace.
I like the look it gives. Theres a few pics in my gallery on page 1 the rest
of the pics are 33X12.5 (MTZs) on the same size wheels.
I have a 83 so we both have w/t axles. My flairs are wider than stock though.
IIRC they are 4 1/2" but I'd have to measure again to be sure.
By the way I have a 4" lift and a 1" body lift.

35x12.50x15 can go on 8 inch rims. That would work out good off-road. With that size wheels there will be a fair amount of sidewall bulge. That would help protect the rims from rocks. It would also allow you to air down a little more.

Going to 10 inch rims will be better for on-road use. You will get less sidewall flex and that will give better handling.

As for the other issues regarding fitting 35 inch tires check out this link: http://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f49/fitn-35s-10244/

4" lift with 1" body lift.

What kind of lift is that? It looks high. I will be running a 4 inch rough country but I went with 33s.

Mine were not to bad. The PO had replaced them with poly body mounts at one time. Plus I live in AZ where its a treat when it rains so there is not much moisture.

In the rust belt you are assured of breaking off the bolts, twisting the captured nuts off, tearing out the rusted out channels, or a combination of the three unless you are very lucky.
