Hey all,
I've searched the archives but could not find a definitive answer so I'll ask here.
I have an 86 CJ7 currently with 15x8 wagon wheels (believe they are original) and 33x10.5 tires. I've been looking to change wheels for aesthetic purposes and the wheel of choice comes in 15x8 with 4" backspacing (custom backspacing available for extra $). I'm not able to pull a wheel and measure backspacing for a couple weeks d/t where it's stored but looking at pictures my wagon wheels look like they might have less backspacing than that ( just comparing pictures which I realize has no accuracy whatsoever). So it would be helpful if folks could chime in.
1. What is the factory backspacing for widetrack CJ7 with 15x8 wheels?
2. What are folks with widetrack CJ's running for backspacing for 15x8 wheels and 10.5" wide tires?
Goal is to keep the tire roughly in the same place which is about .5" outside the fenders.
Thanks in advance
Bill

On my '86, it came with the 15"x7" oem white wagon style wheels. I would think a 10.5 tire would be fine with it. I currently run 12.5s with 8" wheels.

You can run a 31.10.5 on a stock wheel on a stock CJ. I have for years on a couple of them. Tomorrow I can get the back spacing on a stock wheel if you need it.

I believe stock wheels would have 3.5" of backspacing. Maybe 3.75". I've got a set of 15x8 wagons sitting in my basement, so I can measure them if someone doesn't have the definitive answer.

My 76 CJ is running 15x8 Eagle Alloys with 3.75" of backspacing. But with narrow track axles the less backspacing the less chance of hitting the springs with larger tires. WT axles 4" of back spacing and 10.5" rubber, should be no problem.

Thanks for the responses.
Had a chance to answer my own question and get out to my jeep today.
Backspacing on my 15x8 wagon wheels is 3.5".
I believe these were factory wheels but not 100% positive. But maybe this info can help someone down the road.

'86 CJ7 wide track, 15x8 wheels, 3.5" back space and no rubbing on the fenders with 33x10.5x15 tires.

Think I'm probably going to chance the new wheels with 4" backspacing instead of ordering custom backspacing. I'll post pictures of the new wheels as soon as I order and paint them.
